Misty Whitehead, Esquire

Founding Attorney

Misty Whitehead has always wanted to be a lawyer, although her path there was winding. She is a proud "military brat" who traveled extensively as a child and enlisted in the US Army herself at 17 years of age, after having graduated from high school at 16. Enlisting as a Private, she accelerated rapidly, earning the rank of Sergeant before receiving her Honorable Discharge in 1998. Misty went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in their Honors Program, while also raising a growing family. She graduated Summa cum laude in three years with a BA in Political Science, and earned a full merit scholarship to the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, where she was an active and award-winning member of the Moot Court and Trial Teams.

In 2004, Misty accepted a prestigious position upon graduation in the Litigation Section of Williams Mullen, one of Virginia's top large firms. There she honed her trial skills enough to confidently launch a solo practice in 2007. Over the next decade-plus, she developed a reputation for adeptly handling high-conflict contested family law matters, earning the respect and esteem of her colleagues in the Bar, members of the judiciary, and other professionals in the legal system. She treasures her work as a Guardian ad litem for children, and she knows that her experiences as a "GAL" greatly enhance her work in representing parents, as well. She has also significantly expanded the scope of her criminal law practice over the years, and proudly serves on several court-appointed lists for indigent defense. She formed JustLaw in October of 2020.

Misty enjoys a thriving and challenging practice in domestic law and criminal law, but is most proud of her three children, ranging in age from elementary school through adulthood, the eldest of whom was born to Misty when she was 15 years old. Additionally, Misty is a strong and vocal advocate in the area of social justice, and spends much of her free time promoting equity and progress in that arena.
